Former British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste
I commend Bumbi for its impressive response in tackling plastic pollution at source in beautiful Indonesia. Their projects too are enhancing livelihoods in East Java
Senior Director, Partnerships and Engagement, Center for Behavior & the Environment, Rare.org
Congratulations to Bumbi, which was one of our two B.E. Innovative winning organizations! We really enjoyed reading your project report. Your work has demonstrated strong application of the Behavior-Centered Design process to address the challenge. Our reviewers particularly liked that your work also included economic opportunities for disadvantaged groups in East Java. We were excited to see the demonstrated successes during the pilot phase, with clear plans in place to scale your solution!
Deputy Head of Division at Federal Ministry for Economy Cooperation and Development, Germany
Thank you for developing your very succesful approach to promote reusable diapers instead of single-use-diapers to protect the environment and rivers, not only to reduce waste, but also to empower women, provide incentives, and help mommies save money in the long run, this is a wonderful example of how environmental and social benefits can go hand in hand!
Director of Kendangsari Merr Maternity and Children’s Hospital
As a doctor and hospital director, I witness every day how health and environmental conditions directly affect families and children. I also recognize that hospitals, including ours, contribute to the growing volume of single-use diaper waste, which makes up a significant portion of unrecyclable waste in landfills. Through our collaboration with Bumbi and the Surabaya City, I am proud to be part of an initiative that drives positive behavior change, starting with our patients and extending to the wider community.
Foundation Director of Ashmore Foundation
At the Ashmore Foundation, we are proud to continue supporting Bumbi with a second round of grant funding for implementation in 2026. Over the past year, we have seen how Bumbi’s work delivers meaningful economic, social, and environmental benefits for communities in emerging markets. Through our continued collaboration in Surabaya, we are helping expand access to reusable diapers and pads, empowering families and girls with practical, affordable, and sustainable choices, while reducing plastic pollution and creating livelihood opportunities for women who beautifully handcraft Bumbi’s products. We strongly believe that lasting impact is driven by community-led change, and we are encouraged by Bumbi’s model that combines environmental protection with women’s economic empowerment. We invite other organizations to join us in supporting scalable solutions that uplift both people and the planet.
Jember's Midwife
The Bumbi program is incredibly beneficial. It not only promotes environmental stewardship, but it also effectively curbs harmful practices, like disposing of diapers in the river. With this program, we have transitioned to cloth diapers, which, when used and cared for properly, have shown to prevent skin irritation. Another significant benefit lies in the financial savings - funds previously spent on disposable diapers can now be reallocated to improve our babies' nutrition. This is truly a transformative initiative!
A mother of a baby named Naura
My daughter has been using Bumbi diapers for the past three months, and I can't emphasize enough how cost-effective they have been for our family. Not only that, but they are incredibly easy to clean, and most importantly, they have provided excellent protection against rashes and irritation. I genuinely hope that when other mothers see my Instagram posts showcasing the comfort these diapers offer, they will be inspired to make the switch for their precious little ones!
Portuguese family
As a new parent, finding eco-friendly options that also offer comfort and reliability for my baby has been a top priority. Bumbi reusable diapers have been a game-changer for our family. Not only are they incredibly soft and effective at preventing leaks, but they also align with our values of reducing environmental impact. Since switching to Bumbi, we've noticed a significant decrease in our waste and an increase in our savings. The diapers are easy to wash and maintain, and their durability means we can use them for future children, further maximizing our investment. I highly recommend Bumbi to any parent looking for a sustainable, cost-effective diapering solution.
Resident of Rote Island
The diaper is very comfy, doesn't leak, and features cute designs. Most importantly, it's eco-friendly. Let's care for the Earth by using reusable diapers! 😁
Residents of Surabaya City
I started using Bumbi because it was offered to me. My child previously used another cloth diaper brand, but I couldn’t stick with it because it was complicated — it couldn’t be washed in a washing machine or with regular detergent, and there was also the constant leaking issue. When I tried Bumbi recently, WOW! I never expected that after all these years, there would be such an amazing cloth diaper available in Indonesia. Let’s use Bumbi to help keep our planet healthier babies, stay rash-free and less fussy. Thank you so much, Bumbi 💙💙
Head of Environmental Agency, Surabaya City
We are deeply grateful for Bumbi’s contribution in helping the Surabaya City reduce hazardous waste at its source, particularly from single-use diapers and sanitary pads that threaten our rivers, public health, and rapidly fill our landfills. This partnership also plays an important role in reducing microplastic risks to human health. We strongly believe that Bumbi’s household-level behavior change approach is essential to building a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient Surabaya.
